How to calculate the relative abundance of two isotopes?
March 3rd, 2010 | by admin |if you tell me the steps/formula to solving this problem it’d be great. thanks
The element europium exists in nature as two isotopes: 151Eu has a mass of 150.9196 amu, and 153Eu has a mass of 152.9209 amu. The average atomic mass of europium is 151.96 amu. Calculate the relative abundance of the two europium isotopes.
A little rusty on my chem but I think you add the two masses, choose one isotope and divide its individual mass by the gram formula mass and that’s your percent for that isotope. Sorry I don’t have anything to write it down on to try, hope it’s a help.
