You are partly correct. It’s easy to point out it’s just faith and doesn’t make sense. But the same doesn’t apply if for example you want to argue that progressive taxing is not the right way to go, you can’t just say “I’m giving money to me” and think that solves the problem. And me being libertarian or not has nothing to do with the issue, that’s elementary.

How do you debunk religion when the scientific method cannot test it?
Its about faith, and you seem to have faith in big government. So, how ever you debunked religion maybe you should apply it on the government and obama and then conclude that obama can be debunked.

As LibertyPen correctly pointed out, it is not the middle nor the working class that supports the welfare state; it is clearly those at the top end of the economic spectrum. And we end up subsidizing those things which the government claims to want to end: poverty, unemployment, personal failure, etc.

The fact is that the large central-command economy necessary for a welfare and regulatory state works AGAINST the middle class. Libertarians are pro-markets, not pro-corporatism.

FACT: The wealthiest one percent pay 40% of all federal income taxes collected. The bottom 50% either pay no federal income tax or actually RECEIVE money through the tax system. Class warfare may be good politics, but it is poor economics.

I can’t believe how many stupid people there are here.

The rich are not the ones who are providing for the welfare state, it’s the middle class. The rich get extraordinary tax breaks in business and investment, but the middle class do not. Therefore, the majority of taxes are middle class provident.

What would you do if you lost a leg tomorrow and couldn’t ever work again? Welfare or live off nothing? There are benefits to the system, it’s not just people chewing taxes who are on it.

Dont make the generalization fallacy of assuming what other people “think” what socialism is outside the US.

There is no socialism in Europe or Canada but social-democracy, not marxist, and the libertarian free market ideas have been winning a lot of support in Europe lately.

For example Sweeden now is governed by a libertarian coalition of parties in favor of individual liberty and free markets.

Yeah, basically that’s what happens with welfare. You have the government taking money away from productive individuals and subsidizing the very social ails they claim to want to cure. Our current welfare system, in essence, subsidizes unemployment and poverty and makes individuals who otherwise would be productive, income-earning citizens wards of the state — dependent and helpless without the government. Its not only bad for the economy, but for those who supposedly “benefit.”

Actually this is exactly how welfare works…except the money is filtered through government bureaucrats so by the time the money gets to the people who need it, hardly any of it is left. There’s nothing wrong with charity but there is something wrong with using violence to steal from people to give to others…ESPECIALLY if such a program doesn’t even help the people it’s intended to help. Private charity is more efficient if you want to actually help poor people.

It’s safe to say that every country on the globe contains government corruption.

People define socialism differently. But we can agree on words like robbery: taking property by the use of violence or intimidation. Taxation is robbery. The state uses the threat of imprisonment to collect our money. If we refuse, the state will come to our home, kidnap us, & lock us in prison. If we defend our freedom to the bitter end, we will be gunned down. That’s some serious intimidation & thus robbery.
