What are two different teachings in christianity on wealth and poverty in the bible?

February 28th, 2010 | by admin |

I have already got two
Mathew 6:19-21 Don’t store riches on earth
Matthew 14.15-21 Sharing your wealth with the less unfortunate

Please please can you give me two more different teachings from the bible!
Please I am very stuck.
Are there any teachings that wealth is OK?
Thank you soo much

It is the will of God for every Believer to have more than enough to meet their needs, to have enough left over to bless others and to give into the work of the Lord. The Bible teaches us that poverty, debt, and lack are a curse, and that as Christians are obedient in tithing to the local church, sowing financial seeds into ministry, giving of their first fruits, and blessing the needy they will reap a harvest. Provision is having an adequate supply to fulfill the vision (destiny) God has given the Believer, and prosperity is anything more than what meets your needs.

Hope this helps.

Neither of the verses you quoted say that wealth is bad – wealth is not bad at all. In the Old Testament God blessed people with wealth all the time…

What these verses are trying to convey is that you should not live for wealth, but live for God. Don’t value your money over your family, your friends, or God.

It is God who provides you power to get wealth.
    Deuteronomy 8: 18.

    (IN A GOOD WAY)

Beloved, "I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prosper.
    3 John 2.

    Both are my favorite.

Our Father is not against us having money, just don’t make it our ‘god.’

God didn’t want us to be poor, after all if his church was poor how were supposed to expand his kingdom? There are recorded entries in the Bible that shows that Jesus and His disciples were actually quite wealthy. Before Jesus broke the five loaves and the fish to feed the 5000 he asked Judas, the treasurer if there was enough money to buy the food. Judas said no but for Jesus to even ask means that there must have been a lot of money in thier treasure. There are other examples of this throughout the Bible. God rewarded many of his men with wealth, Abraham, Issac, Job, Matthew, and many others were rewarded with wealth.

These are not saying that wealth is ok but:
    Mark 10:23
    Luke 16:13
    1 Timothy 6:17

Being a wealthy Christian is hard. Wealth is not a bad thing, your wealth is given from God. It all is what you do with that wealth.

God is not condemning wealth but he warns of the pursuit and drive of wealth. It seems the problem Jesus had with wealth is that it corrupts the Christian mind. Unless of course you are giving that wealth away.

King Solomon was the wealthiest man in the world and all his riches were given to him by God.
The Wealthy Patriarchs. Faithful servants of Jehovah God, such as the patriarchs Abraham and Job, were not given the commission to assist persons outside their households to adopt true worship. For this reason their time appears to have been mainly filled with caring for the physical and spiritual needs of their respective households. Jehovah blessed the diligent efforts of these servants of his so that they came to have much livestock, many servants, and much gold and silver.—Ge 12:16; 13:2; 14:14; 30:43; 32:10; Job 1:2, 3; 42:10-12.
Though wealthy, these men were not materialists. They appreciated that their material prosperity was due to Jehovah’s blessing upon them, and they were not greedy for riches. Abraham, after defeating four allied kings and recovering all the goods that they had seized from Sodom, could have greatly increased his wealth. But he turned down the offer of the king of Sodom to take the recovered goods, saying: “I do lift up my hand in an oath to Jehovah the Most High God, Producer of heaven and earth, that, from a thread to a sandal lace, no, I shall take nothing from anything that is yours, in order that you may not say, ‘It was I who made Abram rich.’ Nothing for me!” (Ge 14:22-24) When Job lost all his livestock and his children, he exclaimed: “Jehovah himself has given, and Jehovah himself has taken away. Let the name of Jehovah continue to be blessed.”—Job 1:21.
Abraham, Job, and others showed that they could be trusted with riches. They were industrious and used their material possessions properly. Job, for example, was ever ready to help the poor and afflicted. (Job 29:12-16) In view of their right attitude, there was good reason for Jehovah God to protect his servants from being defrauded by selfish and greedy men.—Ge 31:5-12; Job 1:10; Ps 105:14.

its not wealth that is the problem , for many of Gods approved servants had it , King david , King solomon , Job, Its the LOVE of money which is the root of all injurious things, if kept in its proper place money can be quite useful , the trouble is many who get it tend to trust in it and what it can buy and it becomes a huge distraction away from serving God , Jesus was very clear when he said "keep your eye simple" and "your father knows what you need" if we put the kingdom first all these other things will be added to us!!!!

No, wealth is never taught in the Bible to be ok.

    James 5:1
Look here you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth eaten rags. Your gold and silver have become worthless. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This treasure you have accumulated will stand as evidence against you on the day of judgment.

    James 5:5
You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

For the Bible to say that wealth is fine would be a horrible contradiction.

    Matthew 19:23
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is very hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I’ll say it again- it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!

    Genesis 26:13
The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.

    Deuteronomy 8:17
You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."

    1 Samuel 2:7
The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
